Atonement, Sacrifice & Salvation

Sacrifice, substitution, participation, reconciliation, and historical explanations of salvation.

What does the cross accomplish?

Atonement language brings together sacrifice, reconciliation, participation, substitution, and victory. These studies examine how those themes develop within the biblical promise-plan and how later theologians organized them into accounts of salvation. Begin with the scriptural and cultic vocabulary before comparing patristic, medieval, Reformation, and modern models. The presence of a model in this collection indicates a subject for critical study, not endorsement of every claim associated with it.
