Marc Bates is a Messianic Jewish teacher and Christian apologist whose work brings biblical theology, Second Temple Jewish context, and the Divine Council worldview into accessible conversation with Scripture, history, and competing religious claims.
A Life Shaped by the Questions
Marc’s theological journey began within an anti-missionary rabbinic setting, where the claims of Christianity were examined from the standpoint of Jewish objections. His eventual embrace of Jesus as Messiah did not erase those questions. It redirected them into a sustained vocation of study, teaching, and apologetics.
That background continues to shape his work. Marc reads the New Testament as a Jewish corpus rooted in Israel’s Scriptures and the thought-world of Second Temple Judaism. He is especially concerned with recovering the assumptions ancient authors and audiences shared but modern readers often overlook.
Through Rabbit Room Apologetics, he writes for serious lay readers, pastors, teachers, students, and others who want scholarship without unnecessary distance. Skeptics, Muslims, and readers who disagree are welcome to examine the arguments and evidence.

Method and Commitments
- Scripture governs the inquiry. Historical, linguistic, and cultural sources illuminate the biblical text without replacing its authority.
- Biblical theology precedes system-building. Each passage is read within its literary setting and the developing canonical story.
- Ancient context matters. Ancient Near Eastern and Second Temple sources help recover the conceptual world shared by biblical authors and their audiences.
- Evidence should be presented fairly. Competing readings deserve accurate representation, especially in apologetics and polemics.
- Scholarship should remain accessible. Technical work serves readers best when its reasoning can be followed, questioned, and tested.
